Remember last year when I was lost in the rainforest? Not lost, just resting. It's a BIG museum.
It is housed in old Fort/Army Barracks in the very heart of San Jose, which was the site a fierce battle during the 1948 Civil War, In fact the walls and towers still have bullet holes from the fight.
Bullet holes from the Civil War battle that occurred here can still be seen.
There is so much there that I can use in my Social Studies class. It documents everything from primitive hunter-gathers through the Agricultural revolution, Pre-Columbian life in the Americas, the coming of the Spanish. and the colonial period. WOW! I took a billion pictures!!! They also explained a lot about the Civil War and the history of the Fort.
It's called Fort Bella Vista (Pretty View) because it offered the best view the of the city below
Getting there was a breeze. I went to the nearest bus stop and hopped off when they got to the Fort. But coming BACK, I lost my sense of direction, got on the wrong bus and ended up completely confused about my whereabouts. I speak enough Spanish for normal things, but this was WAYYYY too complex. Fortunately a woman and her adult daughter were willing to help. The daughter spoke enough English to give me a hand, suggesting that a taxi would be easier, and even flagged it down and told the taxi driver where I wanted to go. I hope God does something very nice for them!
